Overview

I designed and developed a website for Memphis Health Jamboree, an upcoming nonprofit health festival focused on bringing wellness, culture, and community together. This project began during GiveCamp, a weekend-long event where designers and developers collaborate to support local nonprofits, and I continued working on it with the client after the event to further refine and build out the site. My role was to design the website in WordPress, ensuring it was clear, engaging, and accessible for a wide range of users.

The Problem

The organization needed a website to introduce the festival, communicate its mission, and begin building awareness within the community. Since the event is still in development, there was limited content, no existing website to build from, and no established branding beyond a logo. The challenge was to create something that felt complete and engaging, while still allowing flexibility for future updates.

Outcome

The final website provides Memphis Health Jamboree with a strong digital foundation to begin sharing its vision and connecting with the community. It clearly communicates the purpose of the event while creating a sense of excitement and anticipation. The site is also built in a way that allows it to grow alongside the organization as the festival continues to develop.

What I Learned

This project taught me how to design effectively even when content and assets are limited, while balancing structure with flexibility to allow for future growth. Working with a team, I also learned how to communicate my design decisions clearly to a non-designer client and collaborate efficiently. It reinforced the importance of designing with the audience in mind, especially for a diverse, community-focused experience.
